CMDPS VISION:

To be a global center of excellence in media, democracy, peace and security research and practice

CMDPS MISSION:

To conduct research, policy advocacy, and public education and offer academic programs geared toward enhancing the generation and dissemination of public information to promote democracy, peace and security in Africa and beyond.

CMDPS JUSTIFICATION:

There is a growing sense of civic awareness regarding governance and therefore the need for creating space for better democracies. Equally, there is a growing media space, including traditional journalism and emerging/social media, which needs to be understood in relation to democratic participation, peace/conflict, and security.

CMDPS OBJECTIVES:

 The objectives of the CMDPS are on peace and security. They include the following:

  • To foster the development of innovative Doctor of Philosophy and MSc degrees programs in Media and Security at RU and support graduate students in these areas of study.
  • To do continuous research on issues related to the media and security from a varieties of science perspective to prioritize African epistemic positions through pan-African gnosis and philosophical approaches.
  • To organize academic seminars, public lectures, policy workshops and conferences
  • To build collaboration with domestic and international partners for joint projects and knowledge exchange through Memorandums of Understanding
  • To maintain information resources and provide free public access, including a resource center, an up-to-date web page
  • To champion media information literacy [including social media literacy] and digital peacebuilding
  • To host visiting scholars (professors, researchers, exchange students, journalists, and policy advocates etc ).
  • To harness the power of data science, Machine Learning and AI in the service of humanity by integrating the power of AI for Peace and Security Solutions
